The EMEA Regional Industrial Hygienist (IH) (Occupational Hygienist) will drive technical excellence and program improvements in industrial hygiene programs at MSD sites in Europe, Middle East, and South Africa (EMEA).

Expert knowledge, proven leadership abilities, and experience in IH program development and execution preferably within pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical industries, or alternatively within the chemical industry.

As a leading technical expert in industrial hygiene, must be able to lead, influence, collaborate, and communicate with all levels of organization.

Proven ability to build talent and solve problems efficiently and effectively.

The successful candidate will need to collaborate with colleagues at every level to properly anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and effectively control workplace health risks.

The EMEA Regional IH must be able to drive prioritization and management of risks, ensure regulatory compliance, and prioritize continuous performance improvement efforts.

The Regional IH must be able to provide on-site technical guidance and roll-up your sleeves’ IH support.

This role can be based in any EU Country.

Travel within EMEA is expected to be approximately 25-35%.

Key Responsibilities include :

  • Provide technical support to EMEA Site Industrial Hygiene Coordinators to facilitate proper understanding and implementation of MSD industrial hygiene standard, practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Focused technical support will include : identification of workplace health hazards, evaluation of risks, and identification of proper control strategies.

  • Provide IH technical leadership and hands-on support to enable proper field investigations and identification and implementation of appropriate control strategies.
  • Support the development and distribution of IH technical information and training to the EMEA sites to enable effective implementation of industrial hygiene and support occupational health & toxicology programs.
  • Accountable for IH risk management, IH regulatory tracking, advocacy support, special IH projects, training, site IH support, and engineering project support.
  • Remain current in the practice of industrial hygiene, have current knowledge of regulatory requirements and recognized pharmaceutical industry IH practices and controls.
  • Participate in professional organizations, on outside panels, committees and advisory groups as appropriate.


    Required Experience and Skills :

  • At least 10 years of IH experience preferably in the pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical industries or alternatively in the chemical industry.
  • Direct experience in leading and managing an IH program at the regional level.
  • Direct experience in people development
  • Budget and risk management experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft-based desktop software programs, including : Word, Excel, Access, and MS Project
  • Proficiency in IH databases and IH statistical tools
  • Direct experience in leading multi-national, cross-functional teams and fostering collaboration within diverse work environments.
  • Working knowledge of IH regulatory requirements, industry consensus standards, and recognized best practices.
  • Preferred Experience and Skills :

  • Knowledge and expertise in IH control technologies, potent compound containment, establishing and maintaining effective Industrial Hygiene programs.
  • Proficient in development of technical tools and training programs for a diverse group of site and above site employees with varying IH knowledge.
  • Fluency in additional language(s) is a plus.
  • Education Minimum Requirement :

  • BSc in Occupational Hygiene (or Health, Safety & Environmental) plus 12 years of experience, or MSc in Occupational Hygiene and 10 years of experience
  • Certification in the Comprehensive Practice of IH (CIH) or equivalent is desireable.
