Roughan & O'Donovan is seeking to appoint a chartered geotechnical engineer. This is an exciting opportunity for professionals with 5-

12 years' experience to join our specialist geotechnical group and assist with the design of major roads projects in Ireland and the UK

Location : South Dublin

Salary : Commensurate with experience

Role description

You will be responsible for devising and overseeing ground investigation contracts and supporting various design teams with specialist geotechnical inputs.

Requirements

  • Relevant degree in civil engineering
  • Minimum of 5+ years' experience in Irish / UK glacial till soils including major road / rail projects
  • Knowledge of construction techniques for piles and retaining walls
  • Knowledge of soft ground techniques, peat stability and soil reinforcement methods will be of particular interest
  • Knowledge and work experience using finite element modelling of soil-structure interaction problems
  • Knowledge of quarry / borrow materials used as aggregates and pavement design
  • Construction experience in earthworks, soil improvement and deep foundations
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Chartered Engineer
  • Experience of geotechnical investigations contracts
  • Experience of earthwork design or road / rail infrastructure projects

    Roughan & O'Donovan is seeking to recruit geotechnical engineers with 2-5 years' and 5+ years' experience to join our specialist geotechnical team and assist in the design of major road projects in Ireland and the UK

    Location : Sandyford, Dublin 18

    Salary : Commensurate with experience

    Role description

    The successful candidates will be responsible for devising and overseeing ground investigation contracts and supporting various design teams with specialist geotechnical inputs.

    Duties

  • Plan, procure and control site investigation contracts for major infrastructure projects
  • Advise the structures team on the design parameters for shallow and deep foundations for major structures
  • Design complex foundations, including pile groups and soil-structure interaction problems
  • Prepare the earthworks elements of contract documents, including specifications, design drawings and reports
  • Assess borrow and quarry materials for reuse as embankment fill, drainage, concrete and pavement aggregates
  • Pavement foundation design, in accordance with NRA DMRB and UK DMRB
  • Assess and design soil improvement techniques for soft ground, including surcharge, vertical drains, vibroflotation, geosynthetic reinforcement, geosynthetic encased columns, piled embankments, mass stabilisation, rolling dynamic compaction and lime / concrete subgrade stabilisation
  • Design to Eurocode EC7
  • Assess peat stability and access road / drainage for developments
  • Attend and supervise earthworks on site
  • Concept to delivery of earthworks designs
  • Requirements

    Geotechnical Engineer (2-5 years' experience)

  • Relevant degree in civil engineering
  • Minimum of two years' experience in Irish / UK soils, including major road / rail projects
  • Knowledge of construction techniques for piles and retaining walls
  • Knowledge of soft ground techniques; peat stability and soil reinforcement methods of particular interest
  • Knowledge of and experience of using finite element modelling of soil-structure interaction problems
  • Knowledge of quarry / borrow materials used as aggregates and pavement design
  • Construction experience in earthworks, soil improvement and deep foundations
  • Experience of geotechnical investigations contracts
  • Experience of earthwork design or road / rail infrastructure projects
  • Desired skills

  • Post graduate qualification in geotechnical engineering or related field
  • Knowledgable in the use and manipulation of AGS data
  • Good MS Word, MS Excel and CAD skills
  • Good report writing skills
  • Membership of a recognised professional body in the geotechnical field
