Are you looking to give back to the local community? Do you have a few spare hours to enhance the lives of our elderly residents?

We are looking for motivated, enthusiastic and creative volunteers to join our team in our elderly persons home at Benkhill Lodge in Bedale to support the work of the residential team in assisting to plan activities for our residents.

Your role will be to support elderly people to enjoy meaningful day-time activities at Benkhill Lodge and in the local community.

You can give as much or as little time as you are able to - we are simply looking for volunteers who have excellent communication skills, are self-

motivated and who enjoy a challenge! Most importantly you will promote dignity and respect for our residents at all times.

Benkhill Lodge is situated in Bedale; we are an Older Persons’ Home for up to 30 residents. Providing 24 hour residential care, maintaining each resident’s independence, we want to ensure a quality care service.

The home is divided into three units; a long-stay unit, a respite unit and a rehab unit.

As a volunteer you will benefit from :

  • Having the opportunity to make a difference to the lives of our elderly residents and hear their fascinating stories!
  • A thorough induction and comprehensive training programme to enhance your learning and understanding of our service.
  • You will be supported with regular supervision meetings with your allocated team leader as well as the opportunity to attend staff meetings.
  • Reimbursement of reasonable travel expenses.
  • In this role you will gain exposure to :

  • Planning and facilitating a programme of activities for our residents.
  • Interact and build relationships with a range of people including residents, their families, staff, health professionals and other agencies.
  • Accompanying and supporting residents who are able and willing to access the community.
  • Understanding and maximising each resident’s needs to promote independence.
  • Keeping records to support evidence of activities
  • Some experience in a similar role would be beneficial, but whether you are new to the care sector or you have worked in this environment previously, we would like to hear from you!
