Lead Bioinformatician - Oncology
We are delighted to again be adding to our Bioinformatics team. We are recruiting for a Bioinformatician with an understanding of biological data related to Oncology and experience in statistics to take a lead in projects that involve PCR primer / probe design, DNA sequence analysis, and NGS and comparative genomics supporting development of assays for detecting Infectious Diseases and Cancer Genomics.
You will work alongside our fantastic Bioinformatics team to optimise and automate data extraction and integration, to improve peptide prediction.
You’ll also be designing user friendly interfaces for the Nuritas biological and commercial department, to facilitate the full integration of technology.
Responsibilities to include :
Develop bioinformatics tools and pipelines for use by other scientists in R&D.
Analyze massively parallel sequencing (NGS) genomic data
Apply statistical data analysis to support assay development experiments and guide experimental approaches within Oncoloy
Mentors other scientists in the group through technical assistance, goal suggestion, and growth opportunity suggestion.
Propose and implement quality control and data quality monitoring procedures
Must have strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with biologists, bioinformatics scientists, software developers and IT staff.
Able to work independently on complex projects, anticipate and overcome challenges, negotiate requirements and time lines to deliver results.
Present at internal & external meetings.
Train and update colleagues across the business functions, in many different roles (lab scientists, computer scientists, non-scientists) on technologies being developed
Qualifications & Experience
MSc or PhD in Bioinformatics or computer science
At least 2 years’ experience working in Industry working with biological software and algorithm development or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the individual with the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Required Technical Skills
Experience of working on programmes involve PCR primer / probe design, DNA sequence analysis, and NGS and comparative genomics supporting development of assays for detecting Infectious Diseases and Cancer Genomics
Strong Programming and coding skills, proficient in Python
General web development skills
Experience with Linux and Windows environments
Statistics and R programming
An understanding of standard bioinformatics tools (protein databases, alignments )
