Quality Control Manager - Belview

Glanbia Ireland is a joint venture 60% owned by Glanbia Co-op and 40% owned by Glanbia plc. Established in July 2017, it combines Glanbia Ingredients Ireland, Glanbia Consumer Products and Glanbia Agribusiness.

Glanbia. As Ireland’s largest dairy company, GI annually processes over 2 billion litres of milk into a uniquely broad range of ingredients for export to more than 60 countries supplying leading multinational food and nutrition companies.

We are now looking to fill the position of Quality Control Manager based in the South East in Glanbia’s Belview Plant.

Reporting to the Quality Operations Manager, the primary functions of this role will be to manage and develop the Quality Control function within a nutritional dairy powder ingredients production operation.

You will be responsible for the management and development of the Plant’s physical and chemical testing regime, owned and contracted, across a 24 / 7 manufacturing operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Directly manage QC Co-ordinators (x2) and implement a standard work regime to support delivery of KPIs to internal customers
  • Manage the Quality Control Plan for sampling, testing and presentation of usable data for :
  • Raw materials
  • In-process liquid and powder
  • Finished product in line with compliance standards and customer needs
  • Environmental data relating to plant hygiene standards
  • Utilities and innate testing requirements
  • Deliver accurate results in a timely manner in accordance with plant production and supply chain needs including real-
  • time results relating to in-process liquid and powder results

  • Develop and conduct testing programs in line with approved test master plans and prepared budget and resource plans
  • Optimise the utilisation and deployment of LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) and act as SME for site
  • Develop, implement and monitor control standards and statistical process control regimes related to analysis in order to assure quality results are consistent and accurate
  • Ensure constant inspection readiness status by engaging actively with all key departments and ensure corrective and preventative actions related to quality control are in place and addressed in a timely manner.
  • Review and approval of laboratory investigations / deviations and RCA
  • Manage 3rd party relationships with Glanbia sister sites and external lab service providers against service level agreement commitments
  • Manage qualification, maintenance, calibration, trouble-shooting and support of in-process and near line instrumentation
  • Working with the Production team, plan and prioritise the activities of the production teams assigned to quality / lab related activities.
  • Ensure the lab and its equipment are organized and maintained in line with the Plant standards
  • Contribute to the development of site culture and act as role model for Plant values and behaviours.
  • Act as role model in the implementation of site cleanliness and hygiene standards
  • Key Requirements :

  • Third Level Degree in Science or equivalent
  • 5 years’ experience in In-process Lab environment with a minimum of 3 of these years in a management role
  • Industry Lab experience in the Dairy and or Food & Beverage sector
  • Highly skilled in troubleshooting, fault finding & root cause analysis on plant / process issues.
  • Good working knowledge of GMP and GLP best practices.
  • Experience operating within, and delivering on, the highest quality standards in the manufacturing sector.
  • Proven ability to work effectively as part of a cross functional team.
